EU Commission updates pesticide MRLs

The Commission of the European Union (EU) has begun 2019 by issuing a flurry of new regulations amending its maximum residue levels (MRLs) for a number of pesticides found in foods and food products.

In seven separate regulations issued between January 11 and January 24, the Commission amended the Annexes in Regulations (EC) No 396/2005 that stipulate pesticide MRLs. The 30 individual pesticides addressed in these new regulations include:

• Iprodione (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/38, published in the Official Journal L9 on 11 January)
• Chlorantraniliprole, clomazone, cyclaniliprole, fenazaquin, fenpicoxamid, fluoxastrobin, lambda-cyhalothrin, mepiquat, onion oil, thiacloprid and valifenalate (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/50, published in the Official Journal L10 on 14 January)
• Linuron (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/58, published in the Official Journal L12 on 15 January)
• Acetamiprid (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/88, published in the Official Journal L22 on 24 January)
• Bromadiolone, etofenprox, paclobutrazol and penconazole (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/89, published in the Official Journal L22 on 24 January)
• Bromuconazole, carboxin, fenbutatin oxide, fenpyrazamine and pyridaben (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/90, published in the Official Journal L22 on 24 January)
• Buprofezin, diflubenzuron, ethoxysulfuron, ioxynil, molinate, picoxystrobin and tepraloxydim (Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/91, published in the Official Journal L22 on 24 January)
