Course Overview

This globally recognised Functional Safety Engineer (FSEr) certification, valid for five years, is designed for engineer-level professionals specialising in functional safety. The course provides a foundational understanding of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards, focusing on safety-related functions in Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic safety-related systems and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to effectively minimise risks and failures. Participants will acquire knowledge of the entire Functional Safety lifecycle and develop the expertise needed to excel as functional safety engineers, professionals or experts within the process industry. • Hardware fundamentals and architectural constraints
• Measures to control and prevent failures
• Reliability concepts, device types, voting systems, HFT (Hardware Fault Tolerance), SFF (Safe Failure Fraction), diagnostics, proof testing, and reliability block diagrams

Software

• Software work process requirements
• Methods, techniques and measures in line with standards
• Hardware-software relationship

Special Topics

• Software lifecycle and V-Model
• Software development languages (FPL, FVL, LVL)
• Operation, maintenance, and decommissioning phase, including its importance
• Proof testing concepts
• Functional Safety audits, change management, impact analysis, and decommissioning

Pre-requisites:

Examination & Certification

The functional safety certification can be obtained through our instructor-led training program. Post-completion of the course, participants must attend an examination containing multiple-choice questions to obtain the certificate. Participants scoring as per the passing criteria will be awarded the certificate.
