Course outline

The ISO/SAE 21434 training is a comprehensive 3-day program covering basic to advanced industry concepts. Once you complete the training successfully, you will be awarded with a Certified Automotive Cybersecurity Practitioner (CACSP) Certificate.

Day 1: Introduction & Fundamentals

  • Why automotive cybersecurity matters
  • Analysis of current cybersecurity threats and challenges within automotive
  • Distinguishing between Safety and Security
  • Cybersecurity fundamentals
  • Advances in automotive electronics
  • Identification of attack vectors, vulnerabilities, and risk areas in automotive systems
  • Cybersecurity goals: authenticity, integrity, confidentiality, availability
  • Overview of standards development and best practices
  • Understanding the relationship with Information Security Management Systems (ISMS)
  • Review of UNECE WP.29 regulations No. 155 (CSMS) and No. 156 (SUMS)
  • Introduction to ISO 21434: framework, scope, provisions, objectives, and annexes

Days 2 & 3: Detailed ISO/SAE 21434 Training

  • Management (Clauses 5 & 6): Organisational and project-level cybersecurity management aligning with ISO 21434 requirements
  • Distributed Cybersecurity Activities (Clause 7): Coordinating cybersecurity across the automotive supply chain
  • Continual Cybersecurity Activities (Clause 8): Ongoing risk management strategies and mitigation
  • Concept Phase (Clauses 9 & 15): Item definition, security concepts, security objectives, cybersecurity requirements; threat modelling and risk assessment including TARA methodology with practical exercises
  • Product Development and Validation (Clauses 10 & 11): Application of the V-Model, system, hardware and software development, plus verification and validation techniques
  • Post-Development Phases (Clauses 12-14): Production, operation, maintenance and decommissioning considerations
  • Cybersecurity Testing Approaches: Vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, fuzz testing
