Training duration: 4 days
Course Overview
This course extends your expertise as an electrician by focusing on high-voltage (HV) systems in motor vehicles. Gain specialised knowledge critical for the future of electric mobility and enhance your ability to safely manage the demanding requirements of HV systems found in electric and hybrid vehicles.
What will you learn?
- Identification and understanding of high voltage components, layouts, and their functionality
- Assessment of hazards associated with working on HV systems and creation of safety SOPs
- Implementation of protective measures to ensure the safety of yourself and co-workers during safety-critical tasks
- Practical skills to independently and safely work on vehicles equipped with HV systems such as electric cars and hybrid vehicles
Course Outline
- Introduction to electrical voltage storage and switching currents electromagnetically
- Overview of electronic components relevant to HV systems including generators, DC/AC and DC/DC converters, and motors (three phase, DC)
- Wires, cables, connectors, and charging devices
- Drive concepts in electric and hybrid vehicles
- Workshop diagnostics and practical exercises
- Electrical hazards including electric arcs and secondary accidents
- Protective measures against electric shocks and fault arcs in public grids and vehicles
- Legal and regulatory implications related to HV systems
- Illustrative examples through mild hybrid, full hybrid, electric vehicle (e.g., Smart ED), fuel cell vehicles, and others
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for professionals in research, administration, engineering, and emergency services including:
- Vehicle prototype developers, assembly line designers, R&D professionals, system integrators, and automotive engineering managers
- RSA crew and firefighters involved with electric vehicles
- Automotive electronic systems engineers, software and hardware developers
Pre-requisites: This course is suited for vehicle electricians, mechatronics experts, or technicians without formal electrical engineering education but whose roles now involve HV systems.
Examination & Certification
Participants must pass an online examination featuring 32 multiple-choice questions, with a minimum 60% passing criterion, to earn the certification. The certificate validates competence as a Level-2 Qualified Electrician authorised to safely work on high voltage electric and hybrid vehicle systems.
