TÜV SÜD launched the Industrial Additive Manufacturing Services

TÜV SÜD has launched Industrial Additive Manufacturing (AM) services to meet the demands of rapidly advancing additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies in the field of industrial use. TÜV SÜD will be holding seminars on this subject at INTERMOLD Tokyo in the Tokyo Big Sight from 17th to 20th of April 2019.

What is Additive Manufacturing (AM)?

Additive Manufacturing is a manufacturing technology in which an apparatus repeatedly forms one layer per sequence which finally adds up to a three-dimensional model. This is carried out in accordance with manufacturing instruction data obtained by decomposing a three-dimensional model created on CAD software into ultra-thin layers. Plastics and metals can be handled as main raw materials and materials. There are various alternative definitions around for this technology such as laminate building and 3D printing. The Global standards developer ASTM International and the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) formally define the terminology for additive manufacturing in a joint Committee.

Expectations and challenges for Industrial AM in the fields of dies and mass production

Supply chain participants in each industry have high expectations for the use of this technology in mould-making and mass production. This is because AM has the potential to create new added value through unprecedented designs, reduce lead times and costs, and significantly shorten the supply chain. It has begun to be recognized as a strong business tool beyond the range of manufacturing technologies through recent applications and business models. However, it is also being recognized that many AM standards and requirements must be created to meet AM requirements and maintain consistent quality.

Our Services

TÜV SÜD has developed various certification services and trainings related to additive manufacturing, and has begun providing them globally, including Japan. These services serve as a solution to the proof of quality and reliability issues in supply chain trading, which is becoming increasingly popular in Germany, where the application of additive manufacturing, such as dies and final products, for the industry has been advancing in recent years.

Additive Manufacturing Company certification for industrial AM production sites serves as an indicator for a successful implementation of all currently available standards as well as for reaching the highest level of systemic quality possible. Even more demanding part-specific AM process certification for final product manufacturers using AM technology enables an efficient scaling of production lines and is an important factor for entering regulated markets. Services such as AM Material property certification for the AM supply chain to easily accept new raw materials and new materials, design verification and various kinds of training (e.g., for approval of manufacturing methods including individual materials) can provide trust in the overall supply chain.
TÜV SÜD provides a wide range of additional offerings including AM application approaches, AM-related standards, AM quality control and production control, AM material testing, safety and health and more. We also provide qualification certification for individuals to meet the needs of those involved in the AM industry.

TÜV SÜD Special Seminars at INTERMOLD Tokyo

TÜV SÜD will hold the following seminars at INTERMOLD Tokyo, which will be taking place from Wednesday, April 17 to Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Tokyo Big Sight (Aoki Exhibition Building: Nearest Tokyo Teleport Station). Refer to the following for details of the outline of the meeting. http://www.intermold.jp/seminar/3d/

TÜV SÜD is a certification organization that has its headquarters in Munich, Germany. Globally TÜV SÜD is providing services in a wide range of industries, including automotive, railway, aviation, industrial machinery, plants, chemicals, and medical services.

Seminar overview

“Additive Manufacturing production site certification and product specific certification cases”

Target audience: All those who are concerned with additive manufacturing and those who are interested in getting first-hand information on how to set up a high-end manufacturing site.

In addition to the known methods from the existing quality management standards, the AM-specific aspects must also be taken into account. High complexity, a partial lack of general standards and little experience of the personnel involved are only some criteria to be mentioned here. The aim is to enable quality or production managers to implement and maintain a high quality level in AM production in a targeted manner. The training covers the typical hurdles for an implementation as well as suitable methods to avoid them. Reproducibility is ensured for the AM-process by implementing the corresponding partial processes and clearly defining the roles involved. Along the entire value chain this leads to tremendous advantages such as compliance with health and safety regulations, the implementation of a continuous improvement culture or the recognition of optimization potentials. Through this, a high level of quality for your customers is achieved and creates the basis for reproducible AM series production even in very demanding industries and application areas.

"Additive Manufacturing for decision makers: Key success factors while implementing industrial-grade additive manufacturing"

Target audience: All those who are involved in strategic decision making, innovators, product planners, designers and project leaders.

Decision-makers are initially faced with a large number of question marks when introducing new technologies in the company. Additive manufacturing is on everyone's lips but must be evaluated for its suitability for use in individual cases. Are components manufactured or used for which additive manufacturing could represent a sensible supplement or alternative manufacturing technology? Which hurdles have to be overcome in order to successfully enter the technology? And what costs do I have to estimate in order to start a solid production operation and bring it in line with the rest of the company?
For these and other questions, the "AM for Decision makers" training should shed light and provide you with initial decision support for tackling the additive manufacturing project in your company in a targeted and holistic manner. An introduction is given to all the special features of the manufacturing method, which includes an overview of those processes that offer additional value on an industrial scale. In a practice-oriented way, you will learn how to include additive manufacturing in the entire product development process and make a well-founded decision about the use of the appropriate technology. In addition, criteria for the part assessment are dealt with and an awareness is created, when the use of additive processes should be considered. This enables you to offer your customers consistently high quality, even with innovative processes, while keeping an eye on cost-effectiveness at all times.
