TÜV SÜD joins Sustainability Apparel Coalition

TÜV SÜD has joined the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), a sustainability organisation with the objective of increasing transparency in the apparel, textile and footwear supply chain by enabling the measurement of the environmental and social sustainability impacts, identifying areas of actions and potential for improvements through industry benchmarking.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition is currently the leading alliance for sustainable production in the clothing and footwear industry, and is made up of an industry-wide group of more than 200 leading apparel, footwear and textile brands, retailers, suppliers, service providers, trade associations, nonprofits/NGOs and academic institutions working together to reduce the environmental and social impacts of products around the world. The SAC was incorporated as a 501c(6) nonprofit organization and launched the Higg Index suite of tools in 2011. For more information may be found here.
TÜV SÜD will partner with member clients and its supply chain in order to contribute both data and resources for supporting the Higg Index development.

TÜV SÜD has long been involved in a host of projects concerning corporate social responsibility (CSR) and supports companies striving to meet the currently applicable aims and requirements. The experts have many years of experience in inspecting and auditing fair working conditions and pay, environmentally friendly and sustainable production and animal welfare issues.

The range of inspection and testing services offered by TÜV SÜD includes footwear and leather products (certification marks for footwear, testing for toxins), textiles and clothing ("Tested for harmful substances" certification mark) and fashion accessories.
