Detecting SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces
Sars-Cov-2 is the new strain of coronavirus that causes the disease better known as COVID-19. It is a respiratory virus that spreads mainly through contact with droplets due to the coughing and sneezing of infected people or by touching their mouth, nose and eyes with contaminated hands.
In addition to contact with infected people, considering that dispersion in the environment is another way of spreading Sars-Cov-2, surfaces can also be contaminated by the virus, which can remain there for a few days, degrading over time, but without disappearing completely.
The presence of Sars-Cov-2 on surfaces can only be eliminated by sanitizing environments and surfaces using biocidal agents. TÜV SÜD thorough our laboratory in Italy offer both testing for the safety of the agro-food sector and testing for environmental safety and workplace hygiene, and can now carry out a test for the detection of the Sars-Cov-2 virus on surfaces. This is a useful support to businesses which plan to effectively sanitize their environments in view of, or during, the “restart phase”.
Sampling is carried out by expert TÜV SÜD technicians, suitably equipped in compliance with the safety standards in force, by using swabs on the most high-risk surfaces to verify the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (office surfaces and manufacturing plants, work equipment, ventilation and air conditioning systems, etc.).
Upon request, TÜV SÜD can provide dedicated swabs and instructions so that customers can independently perform the sampling. Swabs must reach our laboratories within 48 hours of sampling.
The test performed by TÜV SÜD, in compliance with WHO guidelines, consists of a Real Time PCR-based Test Kit including RNA extraction for the detection of SARSCoV-2 in environmental surfaces swabs. Test results are provided within 72 hours after arriving at the laboratory.
