The state-of-the-art 38-acre ultra-modern campus at Hamilton International Park (HIP) is just two miles from the existing UWS site in Hamilton. The new campus presents the opportunity to provide a truly 21st century learning environment with innovative teaching and learning facilities as well as specialist labs. The student experience will be central to the development with social spaces, top-end sports facilities and a students' union.
The three campus buildings on the estate are joined by an atrium 'street' which provides work and social spaces for students, staff and the local community. The vision is that the new campus will be one of the UK's 'greenest' education environments including a 236-capacity auditorium and a conference space for up to 128 people, with carbon neutral buildings making UWS Lanarkshire one of the UK's greenest university campuses, incorporating sustainability features such as 100% renewable power from the nearby High Blantyre Wind Farm and roof mounted Photovoltaic Panels as part of a sustainable design strategy.
Professor Craig Mahoney, principal of UWS, said: “The opening of the UWS Lanarkshire campus is a momentous occasion in our university’s history and has been delivered on time and on budget – an extremely proud moment for everyone involved in this highly ambitious project.”
