Achievement: Very Good BREEAM ratingand a ‘B+’ EPC energy ratingwas delivered for this school.
Park Mains High School was a flagship education project for Renfrewshire Council.
The innovative building, which accommodates 1400 pupils and 136 staff over 15,000m2 and features teaching spaces arranged across 3 levels, as well as a range of enhanced PE facilities, including a four court games Hall, Gymnasium, Dance Studio, and Fitness Suite.
A key driver was to fall in line with the councils own modernisation programme which required the overall estate energy use to be reduced year on year.
As a design team we worked hand in hand with the architect to deliver a solution that was fully modelled via IES software to prove it was the most efficient solution available. Key services included biomass boilers, energy management system and full building dynamic thermal modelling.
Taking account of the Councils estate wide strategy we were involved at the early stage of the project to determine such elements as orientation of the school, external wall and window materials, which then allowed us to optimse the building services solutions.
