ThE Olympia Theatre building located at Bridgeton Cross, Glasgow is B-listed and was first opened in September 1911. The scheme involved façade retention and demolition of the rear structure to allow erection of a new steel framed structure capable of accommodating 4 stories of flexible floorspace of over 3,300m².
The new building is a multi-use facility consisting of Boxing ring, Martial Arts area, Judo area, Weightlifting and conditioning gym, changing areas, Café, and approximately 750m² of lettable office space.
The project brief also highlighted the necessity to create a sustainable building. This involved the creation and simulation of the building using dedicated software to help contribute to achieving the required building energy rating, BREEAM
accreditation as well as complying with Section 6 of the Scottish Building Regulations.
The project has re-energised an iconic building in the heart of Glasgow’s East End which lay dormant for 20 plus years, bringing energy and life back into the area.
