UKCA Extended Easement Proposals

Posted by: Carl Hunt Date: 14 Nov 2022

The UK’s department for energy, business, and industrial strategy (BEIS), has today announced that the government will continue to recognise the CE marking for 2 years [from the initial cutoff date 31st Dec 2022], therefore allowing businesses until 31 December 2024 to prepare for the UKCA marking [for most* products].

Businesses to be given UK product marking flexibility - GOV.UK

Business Secretary Grant Shapps said: “This move will give businesses the breathing space and flexibility they need at this crucial time and ensure that our future system for product safety marking is fit for purpose, providing the highest standard for consumers without harming businesses.”

With 7 weeks to go until UKCA marking for most* products became mandatory, this will be received differently depending on who you ask! *Products with special rules continue to remain separate from this guidance. I.e. medical, marine, construction products, etc.

The Statutory Instrument to give effect to these changes is due to be laid before Parliament today (14th Nov) and we expect it to come into force before the end of the year.
