Measurement for Recovery Success for UK Industry
Regardless of sector or size, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a detrimental impact on UK business. From energy and environment to life sciences and healthcare, the effect has been substantial. To provide support, the UK Government Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) enlisted the experts of the UK National Measurement System (NMS) in the delivery of the Measurement for Recovery (M4R) Programme.
In March 2021, the NMS completed the first round of M4R projects for companies across the UK, accelerating their innovation effort by solving analysis or measurement challenges that could not readily be resolved using standard techniques. Bringing together a consortium of national measurement laboratories, including TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory, the M4R programme provided companies with 100 % funded, fast-response projects, supported by the wide-ranging metrology expertise and facilities of the NMS, to help them get back on track during this challenging period.
With over 350 applications taken forwards, the programme supported companies from across the UK from a variety of sectors, including environmental, water, automotive and energy.
“The M4R programme has proven to be a major success and brought real tangible benefits to hundreds of companies across the UK,” commented Business Development Manager, Lynn Hunter. “In addition to helping businesses streamline their processes, reduce costs and increase sales, in many instances it has also allowed manufacturers to diversify their products for entry into new markets, with immediate effect. For example, for one business, the M4R programme support has accelerated their product development timeline by one year, thanks to the combined digital and fluid properties expertise of our consultants. Increased sales and reduced production costs are also anticipated."
