Many congratulations to Dr Chris Mills, Consultant Engineer at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory, who has recently been awarded his doctorate in engineering from Coventry University. The four-year Engineering Doctorate was supported by expertise from both the university and the company. 

The title of Chris’ thesis was ‘Identifying the transition between laminar and turbulent flow using high-frequency pressure loss measurements’, which presented a method to recognise and correct the effect of laminar-turbulent transitional flow on flow measurement technologies.

Chris began his academic career at the University of Strathclyde, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 2008. A chartered engineer, Chris works extensively on projects involving single phase flow measurement with a focus on Coriolis meters, both theoretical and practical, at the UK’s Flow Measurement Facilities at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory.

I have always enjoyed the hands-on nature of my work, especially when working on research projects. In my time here, I’ve worked on several research projects involving the measurement of high viscosity fluids and laminar-turbulent transitional flow. I have always been interested in this extremely challenging measurement area and my thesis topic built upon my previous work. The research completed during my doctorate has been extremely beneficial to my own knowledge levels and will prove to be invaluable for future projects” commented Dr Chris Mills. “
