TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory’s Fluid Properties Expert, Dr Edris Joonaki, has been shortlisted at the 34th Offshore Achievement Awards (OAA), in the “Young Professional Award” category.
Dr Joonaki is one of seven of the industry’s rising stars who have been selected to take part in a selection interview process, before a panel of judges select a short-list of three.
Hosted and organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section, and supported by long standing principal sponsor, TAQA, the OAA annual awards represent the pinnacle of achievement in an industry currently undergoing significant change in its focus and ambition. The awards are the biggest and longest established oil, gas and renewables industry awards for the UK offshore energy sector, covering all aspects from supply to upstream operations and offshore renewables.
“I am thrilled to have been selected as a nominee at this prestigious award, particularly when a record number of entries have been submitted this year”, commented Dr Joonaki.
This is not the first time that Dr Joonaki’s work has been recognised - he is the winner of nine awards to date, including being named in the Top 5 UK Doctoral Researcher of the Year in the Engineering category (Sponsored by ABTA) and the winner of the 2017 SPE-OMC Student Paper Contest in the PhD category. He was also shortlisted as a top entrant in the annual Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) UK Paper Contest recently, in the category of early career Young Professional.
Dr Joonaki is a fluid properties expert with a Batchelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Petroleum University of Technology (PUT) in Iran. In 2015, he was the recipient of a James Watt Scholarship to carry out PhD research to address organic deposits associated flow assurance challenges at the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering (formerly the Institute of Petroleum Engineering) at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
