TÜV SÜD UK has supported the creation of Scotland’s newest secondary school, Bertha Park, due to open in August 2019. Described as the first ‘brand new’ secondary school in Scotland for more than quarter of a century, TÜV SÜD performed the roles of mechanical, electrical and public health engineers, as well as sustainability consultants.
The new school facility will accommodate 1,100 students, including 35 pupils with additional support needs, in an effort by Perth & Kinross Council to accommodate Perth’s growing population in the new Bertha Park residential development. Costing £32 million, the project is uncommon in the current Scottish schools programme as it isn’t a replacement for an existing school- it is an entirely new building to serve the growing population of Perth.
Barry McKeane, Location Director, TÜV SÜD Real Estate Division said: “ We were delighted to have been involved in this unique project. Having a blank canvas with no previous school to replicate in any way, has allowed the design team to produce a highly distinctive school. The school project was delivered by our dedicated team of highly skilled design engineers utilising BIM Level 2 with fully integrated design and construction 3D models.”
The school was built by Robertson Construction Tayside via Hub East Central. The brief was to deliver a brand-new facility to meet the needs of the whole of Bertha Park and landward community. Facilities will include a sports hall, gym, full size grass and synthetic football pitches, and an attached multi-use games area.
