From 13 June 2016, the European Union’s new Radio Equipment Directive will become applicable to radio equipment. All radio receivers, including broadcast radio and, for the first time, television receivers fall within its scope.
The Radio Equipment Directive replaces the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive, which has been the required method for manufacturers to test and show compliance of any radio and telecoms equipment that is sold across Europe since 2000. There are some major changes, and the entire supply chain, as well as Notified Bodies and market surveillance authorities, must be ready for when the Directive is fully in place.
