Technical Guidance on Chlorinated Organic Carriers

What is it?

Chlorinated organic carriers are chlorinated organo benzenes and toluenes, and their isomers.

Potential health hazards:

Chlorinated organic compounds are harmful and may induce liver malfunction irritation to mucus membrane and skin as well as reproductive disorders.

Commonly found in:

Used as auxiliaries in dyeing polyester.

Related legislation (non-exhaustive):

Currently there are no EU requirements on chlorinated organic carriers.

Maximum limit (non-exhaustive):

  • Industry practice: 1 mg / kg (sum)
  • Germany BfR recommendation: Not to use 1, 2, 4 - trichlorobenzene as a dye carrier
