TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH has received official accreditation from BACnet International as Recognized BACnet Test Organization. BACnet conformity testing of building automation elements by a recognized testing laboratory is required as a precondition for successful BTL product certification. TÜV SÜD Industrie Service is now one of four such recognized testing laboratories in the world.
Building automation (BA) relies on standards to ensure that multiple components from different manufacturers are able to communicate smoothly, safely and securely. The BACnet protocol is specified as one of the foremost communication protocols in the building automation industry by the international DIN EN ISO 16484-5 (ANSI/ASHRAE 135) standard, which is continuously revised and developed to take in and implement new requirements such as cybersecurity regulations for BA components. “Our testing operations establish whether the BACnet standard has been completely and correctly put into practice”, says Christian Bauerschmidt, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. “Successful conformity testing provides product manufacturers with third-party proof of their products’ flawless communication capabilities. Correct implementation of the BACnet protocol is one of the paramount requirements to ensure products from different manufacturers can be integrated smoothly into a building automation system.”
As a Recognized BACnet Test Organization, TÜV SÜD Industrie Service is authorised to test the entire range of BA components, spanning sensors and actuators, application-specific control units, freely programmable DDC systems and control and operating systems. The test procedure is set forth in DIN EN ISO 16484 Part 6 (ANSI/ASHEAE 135.1) and is designed to guarantee comparability and repeatability of the tests. “A test report is issued once testing has been successfully completed”, explains Thomas Jakob, Head of the Building Automation laboratory department at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. “Product manufacturers can then submit the report to BTL (BACnet Testing Laboratories), the umbrella organisation of the BACnet test laboratories, which reviews the documentation and issues a certificate.” BTL certification serves as proof for manufacturers that their products meet the specifications of the standard. The new Building Automation Laboratory expands the portfolio of product testing and certification services provided by the existing TÜV SÜD Industrie Service Centres of Competence for Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning and Firing & Heating Technology.
