Introduction to EMC Directive Training Course
This course provides an overview of the "economic operators" (i.e. manufacturers, importers, distributors) responsibilities and how they are discharged explaining the differing requirements for apparatus and fixed installations and the compilation of Technical Documentation. The selection of suitable harmonised/designated EMC test standards and EMC testing is explained with alternative methods of assessment. The differing requirements for specific apparatus in fixed installations are explained.
- Overview of EMC: essential requirements, coupling mechanisms, sources of interference, effects of electromagnetic interference, nature of interference, EMC phenomena.
- EMC Directive and Scope: EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and CE Marking, UK Regulations SI 2016 No. 1091 and UKCA Marking, apparatus and fixed installations, exclusions, military equipment.
- Route to Conformity for Apparatus: ANNEX II Internal Production Control, ANNEX III EU Type Examination, harmonised standards, EMC assessment, technical documentation, EU Notified Body, UK Competent Body, Declaration of Conformity, CE Marking, UKCA Marking.
- Route to Conformity for Fixed Installation: Fixed installation criteria and examples, special essential requirements, good engineering practices, the intended use of components, responsible person, documentation requirements, specific apparatus for given installation.
- EMC Testing: Conducted and radiated emissions, harmonics, and flicker, conducted and radiated immunity, magnetic field immunity, transient immunity, dips and interrupts, in-situ testing.
- Guidelines and Information: EU website Europa, EMC Directive Guide, UK Regulations Guide, trade associations.
