On 15 July 2021, Maine passed bill LD 15031 to ban consumer products containing intentionally added perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

PFAS is known as a large family of thousands of synthetic chemicals which is resistant to degrade when used and in the environment. There are a variety of commercial applications uses of PFAS for example, water, oil and grease repellent treatments for carpets, furniture, food packaging and firefighting foams. The US states started to ban PFAS used in carpets and rugs and/or food packaging, e.g. California, Washington, New York and Vermont.

This bill of Maine includes the notification requirement for consumer products containing intentionally added PFAS, as well as the ban of carpets and rugs containing intentionally added PFAS.
