REQUIREMENTS

Basic knowledge of explosion protection required (e.g. ignition sources; Ex-zone definition; primary, secondary, tertiary explosion protection…)

TARGETED INDUSTRIES

Chemical industry - Pharmaceutical industry - Food industry
The course is intended for engineering departments, production managers, HSE technicians and managers dealing with risks derived from the presence of flammable atmospheres.

GOALS

  • In depth training in the criteria and tools required to define Ex-zones according to IEC 60079-10-1:2015, IEC 60079-10-2:2015 and SUVA 2153
  • Practical considerations on process design influencing the final zone classification
  • Dealing with all types of Ex-zones pure as well as hybrid combinations

METHOD & DOCUMENTATION

  • Theory
  • Case studies: Tank farms, storage facilities for dusts and liquids, liquid and dust transfer between process units, drying of solids, equipment to reduce particle size, ventilation systems and headers collecting streams from equipment, packaging machines
  • Attendees can suggest case studies of interest in their own facilities (information to be sent 1 month before the course)
  • Training material
  • Training certificate

TOPICS

  • State of the art in relation to zone classification
  • Standards IEC 60079-10-1:2015 and IEC 60079-10-2:2015
  • Extension & reduction of Ex-zones
  • Considerations related to cleaning operations
